Online casinos in Australia have been accepting Bitcoin as a form of payment since at least the end of 2018, with the country’s first bitcoin-accepting casino opening last week in Santa Ana.
The first Bitcoin-accepted casino in Australia, the casino on the Gold Coast, opened on Wednesday, and was expected to attract an additional 100 people as the game of blackjack and slot machines were played, with an additional 60 slots available.
Bitcoin payments are processed in Australia using a Bitcoin wallet service known as ‘Bitpay’.
This is done through a service called Bitcoin Wallet, which is operated by BitPay.
BitPay allows users to withdraw cash from Bitcoin wallets in the US, the UK and Europe, and convert it to Australian dollars at a rate of about 0.2 per cent per day.
It is not yet clear if the casino’s Bitcoin acceptance was the first of its kind in Australia.
Last week, the first bitcoin casino opened in New Zealand.
